Soft Commons

Soft Commons brings together artistic positions that understand textiles as social infrastructures. Installations, material experiments, archives, interventions, and performances explore how materials can foster relationships, enable forms of community, and activate public space. At the heart of the exhibition is commoning—the collective production of knowledge, care, and agency through textile practice. Situated at the intersection of material experimentation, artistic research, and social practice, Soft Commons opens up new perspectives on contemporary textile design and makes textiles tangible as active agents of societal transformation.
The exhibition is curated by Essi Johanna Glomb and Katrin Steiger and is a collaboration between the Textile and Material Design Department at Weißensee Academy of Art Berlin and Forschungscampus Dahlem.

Die Ausstellung Soft Commons versammelt künstlerische Positionen, die Textilien als soziale Infrastrukturen verstehen. Installationen, Materialexperimente, Archive, Interventionen und Performances untersuchen, wie Material Beziehungen stiften, Gemeinschaft ermöglichen und öffentliche Räume aktivieren kann. Im Zentrum steht Commoning – das gemeinsame Hervorbringen von Wissen, Fürsorge und Handlungsmöglichkeiten durch textile Praxis. An der Schnittstelle von Materialexperiment, künstlerischer Forschung und sozialer Praxis eröffnet Soft Commons neue Perspektiven auf zeitgenössische textile Gestaltung und macht Textilien als aktive Akteure gesellschaftlicher Transformationsprozesse erfahrbar.
Die Ausstellung wird von Essi Johanna Glomb und Katrin Steiger kuratiert und ist eine Kooperation zwischen dem Fachgebiet Textil- und Materialdesign der Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin und dem Forschungscampus Dahlem.
